Who We Are
Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, Silver and Brass Music Shop is located in Carson City, Nevada. A 20 minute drive from Lake Tahoe, Carson City is often overshadowed by Reno and Las Vegas; however, it is the state capitol and it has its own rustic charms.
We spend most of our time refurbishing and restoring vintage instruments for resale to upper-level students and professionals. We have hundreds of instruments in our unfinished inventory, so if there is a particular horn you are interested in then please contact us and ask if we could refurbish one especially for you.
In addition to restoring professional brass instruments, Silver and Brass Music Shop also builds custom instruments. From jazzophones to seven-belled trumpets, rotary valve herald trumpets in C to pocket french horns in F basso, sometimes our creativity gets the better of us. Often we will customize existing horns during the process of restoration--generally factory-built instruments have some quirks and misalignments built in as a part of the assembly line process, and removing these flaws can dramatically improve an instrument. We can also add improvements such as gold plating slides and caps, or adding slide triggers for improved intonation on trumpets, converting horns to screw-bell, upgrading leadpipes or adding "Duck Foot" hand rests, and finally adding F attachments to straight tenors or converting single rotor bass trombones to double rotor configuration.
If you would like to contact us by phone please feel free to send a text message or call and leave a message at this number: (775) 691-9737 and we will be sure to get back to you as soon as possible. There are only two of us and we are always busy, often with machinery running so that we usually don't hear the phone. If you have a question about a particular horn or you would like to ask what instruments we will be preparing for restoration soon please contact us by phone, email, or through the site's message board.
